Power in Prayer

The Bible tells us that there is power in prayer. Recently I have been reading books on prayer and this week our church is going through a week entitled, "Pause for Prayer." First, I just want to say that prayer is not  a “Wishing well." At a camp where I had the opportunity to work  this summer, one of the coordinators explained to the campers what prayer is and is not! Prayer is not just “wishing” for God to do things in our life.  For example, we  shouldn't  be praying, “God I wish that we have a great day today. I wish that everyone likes their food and that we stay safe.”   That’s not what prayer is!   "Prayer is not monologue, but dialogue. Transformation Thursday!

There once was a little girl who loved playing in the mud and getting messy. She had two brothers so she always did what they did. If they dug a hole, she did. If her brothers played with bugs, she did. Her brothers never minded her being “one of the boys,” in-fact they thought it was great!  Years passed and that little girl started growing up, and started playing with dolls, cooking, and having tea parties. “What’s up with sis,” the brothers would ask each other. “She’s no fun anymore.” Something was up, that little girl was growing and becoming a young woman. You see, God created women to be nurturers. You may be thinking that you will never get out of the little girl/boy stage and become "all grown up". Israel 2017 (day 8)

Tuesday (Day 8) Woke up Tuesday morning and packed our bags to leave the King David hotel at the Dead Sea and started our travels to Jerusalem. Our first stop of the day was at Beer Sheva (Beersheba), home to Abraham (Gen 21). We talked about the practicalities of settling in an oasis area; water is key! We talked about Abraham's relationship with Isaac and Ishmael and how, when we wait and trust in the Lord, we will experience God more profoundly. A little ways away we came to Elah Valley where David slayed Goliath with a sling and sword! It was neat to see this area and gaze around at the different hills where the Israelites and Philistines set up to watch God prevail in the most unlikely of ways! Today this destination is mere agriculture. We ate lunch and got a quick view of Bethlehem, our Savior's birthplace.
